If you’ve ever wondered whether it’s really possible to build an online business from scratch — without fancy credentials, a big budget, or a perfectly mapped-out plan — let me reassure you right now: it absolutely is.
I know this because I didn’t start with a polished brand or a digital product empire.
I started with yard sales.
How My Online Business Journey Actually Began
Long before PLR packs, digital courses, or Amazon KDP books entered my world, I was spending weekends digging through boxes at yard sales and thrift stores. I focused mostly on books — finding undervalued titles, cleaning them up, and reselling them on eBay.
It wasn’t glamorous, but it worked.
That simple model taught me some incredibly valuable lessons early on:
- How to spot demand
- How to price items competitively
- How important clear listings and descriptions are
- And most importantly — how good it feels to make money online
That first “you made a sale” notification was addictive in the best way.
Scaling with Amazon FBA
Once I felt comfortable selling books on eBay, I transitioned into Amazon’s FBA (Fulfillment by Amazon) program. For a couple of years, this was my primary business model.
With FBA, Amazon handled the storage, packing, shipping, and customer service. My job was sourcing inventory, sending it into Amazon’s warehouses, and optimizing my listings.
This stage of my business taught me a different set of skills:
- Inventory management
- Systems and processes
- The power of automation
- How quickly fees and margins matter
It was profitable — but also very tied to physical inventory, shipping schedules, and constant sourcing.
Eventually, I found myself asking a bigger question:
What if I could create something once and sell it over and over again?
Discovering Digital Products, PLR, and Courses
That question led me into the digital world.
I started creating digital products, experimenting with PLR (Private Label Rights) content, and eventually building online courses. This shift changed everything.
Instead of managing boxes and shipments, I was:
- Creating content
- Designing products
- Building systems that could scale
- Helping other people learn and grow
PLR became a powerful tool in my business because it allowed me to create faster, test ideas, and serve different audiences without starting from zero every time.
From there, I expanded into selling products through Amazon KDP, combining my love of publishing with digital leverage. Workbooks, planners, journals, and low-content books became a natural extension of everything I had learned up to that point.
The Truth About Online Business Models
Here’s the part I really want you to hear:
You don’t need to pick the perfect business model on day one.
I didn’t.
I moved from:
- eBay reselling
- to Amazon FBA
- to digital products
- to PLR creation
- to courses and KDP publishing
Each step built on the last. Nothing was wasted.
Every online business model teaches you skills you’ll use later — even if you eventually move on.
You’re Allowed to Change Directions
One of the biggest misconceptions I see is that choosing an online business model is permanent.
It’s not.
You’re allowed to:
- Start small
- Pivot when something no longer fits
- Layer new income streams on top of old ones
- Build a business that fits your life — not the other way around
What matters most is starting with something, learning as you go, and staying open to where that path leads.
If you’re brand new and wondering whether you can really do this, let my story be proof that you can.
I didn’t begin with a master plan. I began with yard-sale books and curiosity.
Everything else came one step at a time.
And if you’re standing at the beginning right now — you’re exactly where you’re supposed to be.
Want to Skip the Trial-and-Error Phase?
If reading this made you think, “I’d love to build something like this — but faster,” you don’t have to figure it all out on your own.
Today, I focus on teaching and creating — helping others build digital products, use PLR strategically, and create income streams that don’t rely on inventory, shipping, or constant sourcing.
On my product page, you’ll find:
- Step-by-step courses that show you exactly how I approach digital products
- Training on PLR, low-content publishing, and online income foundations
- Practical guidance designed for real people — not tech experts or influencers
👉 If you’re ready to move from experimenting to building with intention, here’s where I recommend starting:
- Want to create printables or planners? Most students begin with How to Create a Planner in PowerPoint, where I walk you step by step through designing a product you can actually sell — even if you’re not a designer.
- Want to start a blog the right way? The best place to begin is Build a Profit‑Ready Website, where I show you how to set up a site with monetization in mind from day one (not just pretty pages).
Both options are designed to help you build something real — without guessing, overcomplicating things, or wasting months going in circles.
