Printables is a term that covers a wide variety of products. Basically it is intended to be items that you print at home, or through a local printing business. Printables can be a single page document, or hundreds of pages – and of course, everything in between. Think of things like planners and journals – in lots of sub-niches – as well as things like invitations, certificates and my personal favorite – coloring pages.

By far the easiest type of printable to create is a journal, it can be a simple as lined pages, with a nice bit of decoration. Add prompts to your journal and you have added value, that means you can charge more.

Next level up are planner pages, they can be daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly and/or yearly. Planner pages can be geared toward helping a busy mom keep track of all her kids activities, or they can help a person keep track of their daily medications, there are so many options.

And, quite frankly, this is what trips some people up – too many choices.

If you take a look on Etsy you will see that there are thousands of results when you search for printables, and there are also a lot of suggested terms to help you narrow down your search.

Instead, you are now searching for purple floral printables, you will find less results, but they will be more to your taste, and that makes you more likely to be a buyer vs. a shopper. And you want to find the buyers.

Here is a list of some other types of printables you can create —

  • Party Decorations
  • Invitations
  • Wedding Planners/Decorations
  • Wall Art
  • Coloring Pages
  • Affirmation Cards
  • Greeting Cards
  • Bookmarks
  • Scrapbook & Junk Journal Pages
  • Stickers
  • Holiday Decorations
  • Recipe Pages
  • Flash Cards
  • Classroom Educational Decorations
  • Gift Tags
  • Cleaning Planners
  • Budgeting Planners
  • Travel Checklists
  • Habit Trackers
  • To-Do Lists

This is a very small tip of the iceberg – there are so, so many more products you can create, that your customer is responsible for printing.

How to Create Printables

Create a planner in power point sales graphic

I prefer to design my printables in Power Point, but another common tool that others really like is Canva. I do use Canva for other things, but I just don’t like to create my designs there. Most templates for printable products are available in Canva and/or Power Point, so both are good options.

You can usually purchase templates with PLR rights, this means that you have the right to edit the product and then resale it as your own. Using templates can help you create quality products quickly – and the template seller has often done at least some of the market research for you.

I do have a training course that will show you how to Create Planners in Power Point, if you are interested in learning more about that pathway.

Once you have you template, or you design your own template from scratch, you want to make sure you add design elements that will appeal to your buyer. To be honest, a lot of printable buyers are women – but certainly not all of them – and not all the women are looking for fancy script fonts and flowers.

One of my favorite things is to take a PLR template and turn it into a completely different looking product – sometimes a completely different product. The easiest way to change up your templates with graphics, color and fonts in my opinion.

Take a look at the sales page for my Re-Imagination Club for some examples of how I have changed up some printables – no obligation to buy 😊.
